Mini Bikes For Kids Are A Growing Sport
The mini bikes for kids that we used to know are a thing of the past. When we said “mini bike” it described a small frame with go cart type tires and a lawn mower engine, usually 3. 5 hp. These mini bikes were very basic, had no gears and would travel at a maximum speed of 25 or 30 mph. The transmission in these was usually a basic centrifugal clutch.
When we speak of mini bikes today, we conjure up a whole new picture. The mini bikes of today come in many styles and varieties and are powered either with a gas or an electric motor. In this article, we are going to examine the many different types of mini bikes that are available today.
We will start with the Super street bikes. These are a scaled down imitation of what we call the Japanese “crotch rockets” we see breaking the speed limit every day, if not wheeling by us in traffic. These can also be turned into “Super Pocket Rockets” that we will talk about later.
For the kid that wants to be like uncle “Buzz” we have the mini choppers bikes. These are just like the full size choppers we hear on the road today, only scaled down to kid size. This is the fastest growing segment of the mini bike business today. Your creativity is the limit with the custom features you can purchase to go on these.
A distant cousin of the old fashioned mini bike is the mini dirt bike. They are just what they say. These mini bikes are designed to be ridden on the dirt in areas that are meant for this such as off road parks and tracks. The difference from the old dirt mini bike is that a lot of these look like mini motocross bikes. There are some that come with a retro feel and look like the mini bikes of old, but they have more modern features like good breaks.
The competitive kids might want to go for a Super Pocket Rocket. These are fast! These bikes are again, fashioned after the Japanese “crotch rocket” and some will go just as fast, do not let the size fool you. These are considered to be the most dangerous of the mini bikes.
The electric motor is also used on some of these mini bikes. You will find these to be much slower, quieter, and safer for the smaller kids.
You should always think safety first when you put your child on one of these. Your child should always wear a helmet and any other safety gear that will keep your kid safe.

Fantastic ride-on from Razor!!!, January 11, 2007
My five-year old got this pocket rocket for Christmas and it is fantastic! It is the perfect size for him. I can’t imagine a twelve-year-old or up as the manufacturer suggests being able to comfortably ride this as it is very small. Anyway, it runs super fast, so fast that it scared me in the beginning, but I make sure my son wears a helmet and pads at all times when riding. Luckily, no spills yet. The battery easily lasts an entire day of fairly constant riding, and then I charge it at night for the next day. This is a great, great ride-on, especially for $150. It’s the best $$ Santa ever spent at our house!!

Our Pocket Rocket has really held up. It’s the red streak of the neighborhood. All my friends and even their parents have ridden it. My best friend crashed it, but it took the hit really well. Thank goodness you can get parts for it easily. Always wear a helmet!

I received the bike for Christmas two years ago. I have to say, I LOVE IT. I recommend this for someone age Nine and up. Maybe Eight. Since this is a pocket bike. It’s motorized. This would be a bad idea for a kid who can’t ride on a two wheeler bike. Training wheels aren’t able to be attached. This is a fast bike too. It goes 15 MPH. A young kid around the age of 5 can’t handle a fall at a speed in that range. I’m twelve and I’ve taken some nasty falls on it. Don’t let that make you say “This thing is too dangerous”.
This bike was designed to be ridden on pavement. That’s how you can go 15 MPH. I don’t have pavement where I live so I am forced to ride it in my backyard. It still runs well on grass, gravel and rough surfaces.
This bike is easy to make portable. It weighs about forty five pound and can be put inside of a car trunk. I do that sometimes. To ride it on pavement to really get the adrenaline pumping.
Inside the box, the bike comes with the bike (Of course). And with the front fender. It needs to be put on before riding. I think now it comes with that assembled already. It comes with decals too. It has a charger and it needs to be charged twenty four hours before use. The handlebars must be fixed before too. Move them to any position that you like and tighten them.

Our friends have a razor pocket rocket and they let me try it out. I loved it. Its quality is very good; they’ve had it for about 3 years now and it is still in mint condition. It takes about 2hours to charge and lasts about 45 minutes.it goes about 15 mph, and is very easy to control.I would recommend this product to kids about 9 years old and up becausethe weight compacity is 220 pounds and anyone under 9 may be afraid ormay not see the fun in this.the cost is pretty low for what you get.I got mine recently for 183 bucks.Overall i recommend that you get this over any other electricly moterized product(I looked for about 1 month and this was the best product i could find for the money)because of cost and Quality.I am 11 years old.
